Want to Transition Your Career? Work the Plan.
I’m a planner by nature so I resonate with others who feel the same way. See how many of the famous people you can identify from their quotations. The answers are provided at the end of this post. No peeking!
“By failing to prepare, you are preparing to fail.”
“I love it when a plan comes together.”
“If you don’t know where you’re going, you’ll end up someplace else.”
“A goal without a plan is just a wish.”
“Plans are of little importance, but planning is essential.”
“A man who does not think and plan long ahead will find trouble right at his door.”
“It takes as much energy to wish as it does to plan.”
Many people aren’t like me. They don’t enjoy planning. They’d rather embrace the serendipitous opportunities that they stumble upon, let down their hair, breathe easy, and enjoy the happenstance occasions of life. (Just writing that sentence gives me hives!) While spontenaity and whimsical avoidance of planning may work for some (or for people like me when they’re on vacation), there’s one area in which failing to plan is truly planning to fail. Do you want to transition your career? Work the plan?
“Sure,” you might be thinking, “I’d love to experience a career transition. But, is there a plan I can follow?”
There is! We’re glad you asked! At Rozzi and Associates, our career-transition plan has helped numerous professionals—people in all types of organizations, in all levels of leadership, and from the beginning to the end of their careers—successfully navigate from where they were to where they wanted to be.
The career transition process begins with you. We can help you better understand yourself—your personality, your passions, your talents, and your experiences. We will also guide you as you craft language that helps you communicate about where you’ve been, where you are, and where you’d like to go. We help you create the tools you’ll need like your resume, your LinkedIn profile, pieces of correspondence, and more. We’ll help you identify the most influential people in your network and we’ll coach you on how to market yourself. We will even prepare you to interview, negotiate compensation and benefits, and successfully integrate into the culture of your new employer.
If you’re hoping and dreaming of making a career transition, we hope that (1.) Benjamin Franklin, (2.) Hannibal from the A-Team, (3.) Yogi Berra, (4.) Antoine de Saint-Exupéry, (5.) Winston Churchill, (6.) Confucius, and (7.) Eleanor Roosevelt have impressed upon you the critical importance of having a plan. Don’t fly by the seat of your pants or wing it. Get in touch and we’ll help you craft a plan that ensures you end up exactly where you want to be!
We love it when a plan comes together!
